The poignant opening scene starts with a despondent Mr. Nambiar from Alleppey looking at the open door of his hotel 23 times that day but there are no guests. Jancy prays and goes to the airport in her cab each day and waits there for passengers, only to return home crestfallen.

The veteran Mr. Nair is frustrated as he longs to put on the colours of his Kathakali makeup but there is no audience to watch him perform while Fatima has her Karimeen fry ready to be fried but sadly there are no customers.

As the narrative progresses, you hear the joyful voice of Fatima's son calling out, "mother" and running to her with a skip in his feet. Fatima's face lights up as she can now cook and there is someone to eat her legendary fish fry. Mr. Nair now has his audience and his face is brightly lit with the myriad colours of his dance form.

Jancy finally has a destination to take her cab and Mr. Nambiar has guests arriving at his hotel.

Kerala being a state where a quarter of the employment is dependent on tourism was greatly hit post the floods with a sharp drop in visitors. People from all walks of life are dependent on tourists for their livelihood.

The local residents had exhibited an extraordinary sense of resilience, unity and strength in the face of the calamity and now it was time for them to rebuild their state. The short and simply-rendered film urges people to discover Kerala and boost the state's economy.

Kent Water Purifier: #toughlove (Ad 2017)

~ Kolla Krishna Madhavi

Keep your Family Healthy, Bring Home KENT Water Purifier!

Celebrating a sensitive mother-son relationship, KENT water purifier ad is a touching showcase of why some tough and seemingly inconsiderate behavior can actually turn out to be a blessing in disguise.

The ad starts off with a man having his dinner asking his mother if she had her medicines. He then asks his wife, Ritu for 'curds'. They have an exchange of words. This is followed by the son asking his mother to go to the shop downstairs and buy curds. The wife gets furious and asks him to send their young son, Monu instead. The husband insists that his mother should make the purchase as Monu is watching cartoons. Finally, the mother steps out and walks with a little difficulty to the shop.

The angry wife questions her husband about why he was adamant that his mother should only fetch curds when she is elderly. The protagonist replies that the doctor has adviced his mother to walk. "Apne liye nahin, mere liye toh kar legi".

The panting mother returns home to be warmly greeted by her son who fetches her a glass of water and asks, "thak gayi?" The mother smiles and says, "sab samaj rahin hoon teri tarqeebein!"

Conceptualized and executed by Jigsaw Pictures Pvt. Ltd and accompanied by touching lyrics, the video aims directly at the heart - it draws one through a series of emotions - surprise, anger, empathy, realization and finally, happiness.

Axis Bank Foundation: The Story of #AMillionThanks (Ad 2018)

~ Kolla Krishna Madhavi

Every family photo has a story and so does Appu's!

Axis Bank Foundation

Axis Bank's Foundation (ABF) has been endeavoring to provide a livelihood to a million people across India.

Over the last decade, the Axis Bank Foundation has been trying to unite disrupted homes like Appu's where the father has left his family in the village and migrated to the city to earn a living. The beneficiaries of these initiatives are able to find alternate means of livelihood within the village itself and reunite with their families.

The story starts off with Appu, a young girl, joyously visiting a village fair. She religiously visits the fair each year, but what was different this time is that she is able to click a photo with both her parents. Appu's family is now complete as her father has returned home.

Some families are unable to survive in the villages due to shrinking returns from their agriculture-based income and are forced to leave their homes to earn a living. Interventions by ABF across 21 states, 178 districts, and 10,000 villages have impacted 1 million livelihoods and helped stem a part of the exodus.

Axis Bank Foundation's "sustainable livelihood" theme is focused on increasing farm productivity, natural resource management and employability and entrepreneurship skills in impacted regions. This CSR outreach in some of the country's underprivileged and undeveloped areas has alleviated a few of those affected find both alternate and supplementary means of earning closer home.

Entrepreneurship is not only about building the next Tech giant. It is also about being able to make those small but effective changes within your "circle of influence" (like these farmers) which help support your family as well as enable others around you earn a wage.

The story is not about the bank and its services. This story is about Appu and a Million Livelihoods!

ITC Savlon: Swasth India ID Guard - Children's Day (Ad 2017)

~ Kolla Krishna Madhavi

Proper washing of hands is a challenge, not just for kids, but for most adults too. Since germs are invisible, some of us may have a wrong notion that our hands are clean and not carrying any germs. And worse, while some are conscientious enough to make that extra effort to wash their hands thoroughly with soap and water, they do not find a soap handily.

Savlon Swasth India ID Guard tries to tackle this daunting issue. The ad, which was released on Children's Day 2017 shows students being distributed School ID cards coupled with small sachets carrying liquid soap. This enables handwash to not only be available and accessible, but also easily portable in a handy and hygienic way. The creative solution offered by Savlon Swasth India ID Guard makes the complete hand washing process so much more convenient.

From the stable of one of the leading Indian conglomerates - ITC, Savlon has been a part of Indian households for over half a century. They have since extended their earlier germ-killing legacy, which began with an antiseptic liquid, to soaps and hand washes.

Savlon's recent ad campaign is not just aimed at promoting their brand, but dovetailing with Savlon India's unique Hygiene & Health programme. it is also designed to create awareness and motivate children to incorporate a healthy and hygienic handwash habit in their daily routine. Since it is mandatory for school children to always carry their school ID with them, this initiative uses a simple, but an innovative technique of clubbing hand wash with a school ID to address the widespread issue of hand hygiene.

Savlon is currently on a mission to promote "healthier kids, stronger India" and encourage behavioral change toward hand hygieneAn imaginatively redesigned product, sprinkled with a clear social message, has made the ad very effective, both in terms of communication and its impact on the audience.

Enable a personal bodyguard for every child, the safe way!

Surf Excel Detergent Powder: Daag Acche Hain #HaarKoHarao (TVC 2017)

~ Kolla Krishna Madhavi

In a world where we shun dirt and stains and the entire focus is on achievement vs. learning, Surf Excel's continuing advertising campaigns celebrating stains based on their proposition that "Daag Acche Hain" stands out with not just the visual impact, but the valuable message it unfolds.

The recent Surf Excel Easy Wash ad shows a young boy, Ayush's team losing their 5th cricket match. The coach is highly disappointed and decides to resign from coaching. As he is walking away, we see Ayush rolling in the cricket ground and getting muddy in the process. When the coach comes to admonish him for spoiling the ground, Ayush tells the coach that it is because they had lost the match again. The coach tells him it is not the last match. The boy then questions the coach that if it is not the last match, then why is the latter quitting. They lost today, but could win on another day. The coach realizes his mistake and puts back his coach's cap. They decide to start training early morning from the next day.

It is an extremely thought-provoking ad. Taking Surf Excel's decade-long campaign: "Dirt is Good, Surf Excel Hai Na" further to "Haar Ko Harao", the advertisement conveys not just the core purpose of the detergent powder, but strongly promotes the philosophy that if a child is getting dirty while defeating failure, then it is totally acceptable.

The ad also showcases important life values of positivity, motivation, and sportsmanship among children.

Leveraging on the innocence of children, the teams of HUL and Lowe Lintas are trying to use the "Engine of Dirt" to creatively inspire parents, teachers, and society at large to change their perspective on failure. This ad is a big departure from the challenges faced by today's parents and adults in general, who are highly achievement-oriented and conditioned to deal more negatively with lack of success, unlike children who tend to learn from their failures.

DUKES Waffy New Year: #Pledge365 (TVC December 2017)

~Kolla krishna Madhavi

Pledge an uninterrupted hour a day for your child!

Directed by Divyansh Ganjoo and conceptualised by Orcomm Advertising, the latest ad by Dukes Waffy is the heartfelt story of a little boy, Rohan who tries alternatively to speak to both his parents, but neither have the time for him. They are both caught up in their day-to-day activities. This continues over a period of time.

Finally, Rohan picks up his little soft toy, Gobo and forlornly shares with it how he is being bullied in school by Aarav. He seeks the toy's help to counter the bully. His mother overhears him and realises her mistake.

Soon after, we see both the parents sitting together with Rohan and keenly listening to their son as he shares his day's occurrences with them. The boy is animated and happy as he finally has his parents' undivided attention.

In the foreground, we see a small box labelled "Rohan's time" with 2 phones in it.

Dukes by Ravi Foods Pvt. Ltd. (RFPL) takes its philosophy of Waffy Happy a step further with this campaign. It has a sweet but critical message for parents urging them to gift an uninterrupted hour a day to their children.

This commercial is a definite wakeup call! Caught up in a digital world, parents sometimes tend to devote more time to their devices then to their children.
